CHANDIGARH: After the deadline to remove loose and hanging wires of cable operators and internet service providers ended on October 31, the municipal corporation (MC) has started removing them.
Different teams are carrying out the drive, but overhead wires and cables can still be seen in majority of areas in violation of rules.

The illegal practice is also causing revenue loss to the authority, with many operators running their business without paying a single rupee. Wrapped around trees and tied to electricity poles in commercial, residential and institutional areas, these wires pose safety risk.

Municipal commissioner Anindita Mitra said, “Cable operators and internet service providers were told to remove the wires on their own by October 31. Multiple teams of the MC are removing these cables. The areas have been divided and a proper roaster prepared. All unauthorised cables will be removed in the coming days.”
Companies are supposed to lay underground cables.
